97,000 reasons to be thankful!

The Almonte General Hospital / Fairview Manor Foundation has wrapped up the “Your healthcare close to home” seasonal appeal on Feb., 1, 2016 and the grand total is in. – $97,000 was raised to purchase new and replacement equipment for the Hospital and Manor.

“This is our most successful seasonal appeal ever,” said a pleased and appreciative Mary Wilson Trider, AGH President and CEO.  “The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care provides funding for our operating costs but not equipment.  Financial support from our community is essential if we are going to have modern, up-to-date facilities.  On behalf of the patients and residents who benefit from the generosity of our loyal donors, the Hospital board members, physicians and staff join me in saying 97,000 thank yous for your generosity.”

“We owe a big debt of gratitude to the Ian Keith Taylor General Trust and the Almonte Civitan Club,” said AGH-FVM Foundation Managing Director Al Roberts.  “By offering to match donations, they really helped inspire donors to participate in this campaign.”

Several new pieces of equipment have begun arriving at the Hospital including a new bladder scanner, a blood/fluid warmer and several ceiling lifts.  Other items such as new beds and mattresses for various locations throughout the hospital, sleeper chairs, IV poles and pumps, and two new ultrasounds for the physiotherapy department are all still to be ordered.

“Our members were very happy to help support this campaign,” said Alice Puddington, President of the Almonte Civitan Club.  “Having safe, quality healthcare close to home is never something we can ever take for granted. “

High Times at the Heart Institute Valley Tour raises $21K for local healthcare

Last fall, Stone Fence Theatre of Eganville toured up and down the Ottawa Valley performing a hilarious musical called High Times at the Heart Institute.  Written by Ish Thellheimer, the play looked at the differences between American and Canadian healthcare through the eyes of several semi-fictitious patients at the Heart Institute.  Shows were presented in Deep River, Pembroke, Eganville, Renfrew, Barry’s Bay, Almonte and Ottawa.  The end result $21,000 was shared among valley hospitals and the Heart Institute.

charlotteCharlotte Searle (7) proudly donated $63.70 to Foundation Director Al Roberts last week.  Charlotte raised the funds by selling her dollhouse and topping up the amount with some money she had already collected.

When asked why, her answer was quite simple.  One of her schoolmates is battling cancer and she thought that it would help.

Thank you Charlotte for helping to support health care close to home.

The Commonwell Donates $25K to Almonte General Hospital Local Insurer Gives Back with C.A.R.E Program

The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group, a home and auto insurance company focused on clients throughout Ontario, has announced their latest major community donation of $25,000 to Almonte General Hospital and Fairview Manor Foundation. Funded through The Commonwell’s C.A.R.E (Create a Ripple Effect) program, the donation will assist with the purchase of two new ultrasound machines for the local emergency and acute care hospital.

“The Commonwell’s donation will help ensure that each year hundreds of mothers will have access to state-of-the-art ultrasound images ‎as part of their prenatal care at Almonte General Hospital,” said Mary Wilson Trider, President and CEO of Almonte General Hospital. “As will other patients being investigated for gynecological, urological, abdominal and vascular issues.”

Almonte General Hospital (AGH) is a 52-bed emergency and acute care hospital serving the Mississippi Mills region as well as Arnprior, Carleton Place, Ottawa, Perth and surrounding townships. The Commonwell’s C.A.R.E donation will help fund two new ultrasound machines to meet the hospital’s growing demand for ultrasounds and to replace aging equipment. This will not only cut wait times for medical and obstetrical ultrasound scans in half, but it will update the hospital’s equipment to meet the latest technological advances.

Foundation Mourns Loss of Leonard Lee

Foundation Mourns Loss of Leonard Lee

The Almonte General Hospital – Fairview Manor family including board members, staff, volunteers as well as AGH-FVM Foundation board members, volunteers and staff are today mourning the loss of one of the Foundation’s founding directors, Mr. Leonard Lee.

The Almonte General Hospital Foundation was incorporated under the Ontario Corporations Act on March 23, 2001.  The applicants and first directors of the Corporation were Mrs. Mary Huggessen, former Hospital Executive Director Ray Timmons and Mr. Lee.

Mr. Lee when on to co-chair the Hospital’s first major capital fundraising campaign, Quality Care for Life, with Mrs. Hugessen.  The successful campaign, which took place from 2003-2008, helped fund the new Fairview Manor, which was expanded to 112 beds from 100, and saw renovations to the Emergency, Obstetrics, X-Ray and Ultrasound departments which were all completely modernized.  Their efforts helped encourage generous community support totalling $4 million of the total $29 million cost of the redevelopment of the Hospital and Manor.

As a much sought after speaker in business circles across North American because of his successful founding and expansion of both Lee Valley Tools and Canica Design, a medical tool company, Mr. Lee contributed thousands of dollars to the campaign himself by redirecting his speaker’s fees to the Hospital and Manor Foundation.  This was but one of the entrepreneurial ways Mr. Lee supported health care close to home, something about which he felt very strongly.  Mr. Lee remained active on the Foundation board until 2011.

The AGH-FVM family extends condolences to his wife Lorraine, sons Robin and James, and their families.

At the family’s request, donations are being directed to the AGH-FVM Foundation.

Thank you Mr. Lee.
